It helped me to set aside my worries and just let the day unfold. I still worry, but I let myself take a breath and soak my brain in the knowledge that my kids are doing just fine. If you’ve ever had a question about whether or not you and your kids will actually survive this homeschool journey. You need this book. It’s a quick read, took me 45 focused minutes, so maybe an hour and a half of leisure reading tops! I re-read it often and have bought it for so many homeschool families now!
If you need a little peace and some perspective on how to simplify while increasing the impact, this is your read!
I sat down to read 1 chapter; before I knew it, I was finished with the book! It was a quick read for those time-crunched parents and the book really resonated with me, as I have a simular style of homeschooling. It gave me the much needed confidence boost and inspiration to keep going! I will be recommending this book to all the homeschooling families I know.
It also has a section at the end of the book with feedback from her 3 graduated children about this style of homeschooling and why it worked for them, which I'm always curious about.
A good, quick read. "The Unhurried Homeschooler" WILL STAY in my homeschool book collection.
This book was just the breath of fresh air I needed as I hit a point of weariness last fall while trying to determine God's direction for changes to my daughter's curriculum. Reading a little book like this once or twice a year seems to recharge my spirit and grant freedoms where I might be trying to make things difficult. So thankful for Durenda Wilson's wisdom. )
If you wonder why homeschool? Am I doing enough? Is my child behind? How do I know I am in God's will for my family? This beautiful encouraging book is for you. It is not a long read but it is full of profound insights, research based conclusions, Scripture and encouragement from a long time homeschooler whose adult children are proof of the effectiveness of following your own God given instincts and your children's natural capacity and desire to learn. I highly recommend this book for everyone considering homeschooling, new to homeschooling or veteran homeschoolers.
I really enjoyed this book. After homeschooling for nine years, I began my first year of teaching six kids, and realized I couldn't do it. Not only that, but I have a total of eight kids, and if I couldn't do six, I surely couldn't do eight. This book helped me to see areas where I am putting too much on myself, why I'm putting too much on myself, and ways to make it easier. After putting my kids in public school this past year, I think I may be willing to try again next year. I recommend this book to anyone who has the heart to have their kids at home, but is struggling with the logistics of it.
This should be the first book anyone reads before homeschooling OR for anyone who is currently homeschooling and a little or a lot of the homeschool experience is frustrating. And it IS wonderfully short, yet covers a lot of important topics.
This book is filled with encouragement and good advice. After reading it, I feel more than ever that the decision to pull my kid out of public school was the best decision ever! This book gave me the friendly "knock up side the head" I needed to remind me that my child is unique in his way of learning and processing information. He's not under pressure to keep up with his peers and the Common Core State Standards(which was an issue when he was in public school). I have the freedom to choose his curriculum whether basic or advanced and to slow things down and tailor the learning experience around him. Homeschooling is a blessing!
